20 Tips To Make More Sales on Poshmark

Published on:

Have you been selling on Poshmark for a while and are now trying to step up your game and increase your sales?

Selling on Poshmark can be a very lucrative side hustle or even a full-time income source for some people. Personally, I started selling on Poshmark almost 2 years ago as a way to declutter and make some extra money. Now, I also get inventory from other sources as I’m running out of things to sell from my own closet. In these 2 years I have tried different strategies to increase my sales without necessarily having a lot of inventory. I have a relatively small closet with less than 200 pieces and I only spend 2 to 4 hours a week listing new items but I still manage to make around $1k per month.

In this article, I want to share different techniques and strategies that can help you increase your Poshmark sales too. Whether you are a beginner or have some experience on the platform, keep reading to learn how to make more sales on Poshmark.

Listing Optimization Techniques

When it comes to maximizing your success on Poshmark, effective listing optimization is key. If multiple sellers are offering the same item at a similar price, a very good listing can help you stand out among other sellers. Here are some strategies to optimize your Poshmark listings:

1. Include Measurements

Buyers want to know exactly what they’re getting, especially when it comes to fit as Poshmark does not allow returns related to fit. Include crucial details like the garment’s length, width, and any other relevant dimensions.

2. Write Good Descriptions

Crafting compelling and informative item descriptions is a crucial aspect of effective listing optimization. Clearly articulate the color, material, and style of the item. Share any unique features or details that set your listing apart. The more detailed and accurate your descriptions, the more confident buyers will feel about making a purchase.

3. Make sure to disclose any flaws

Carefully, review your item before listing and make sure to include any flaws in the description. Of course, you also have to price the item accordingly.

4. Use the Right Keywords

Poshmark relies on search algorithms to connect buyers with relevant listings. To ensure your items are easily discoverable, incorporate relevant keywords in your titles and descriptions. Think about terms a potential buyer might use when searching for a similar item. Balancing specificity and popularity in your keywords can enhance your listing’s visibility. For example, for this item:

Use Better Pictures

Captivating visuals play a pivotal role in attracting buyers and making your Poshmark listings stand out. Elevate your product presentation with the following strategies to ensure your pictures leave a lasting impression:

5. Take Better Pictures

Invest time in capturing high-quality images of your items. Find a spot in your house with optimal lighting conditions, whether natural or artificial, to highlight the details. Experiment with different light sources to find what works best for each item. For example I use my white closet door as a background for most of my pictures.

6. Learn to Edit Pictures

Enhance your images with basic editing to improve overall quality. I know that Poshmark has its own editing options but they are not very good. I recommend using a basic photo editing app like Lightroom. I like that this app lets you save your favorite presets, so you can reuse them for future pictures to have a more consistent style across different listings. Editing can help correct colors and ensure your items look as close to the real life version as possible. Remember, your cover photo is often the first interaction a potential buyer has with your listing, so make it visually appealing.

7. Use Stock Images

Consider incorporating stock images or lifestyle photos when available. These can complement your product shots and provide potential buyers with a better sense of how the item looks in real life. Just ensure that the stock images align with your actual product to maintain transparency and build trust with your audience. Now, technically you cannot use stock pictures because of copyright issues. The brand owns those images after all. However, most sellers use stock images and personally I have seen that having the stock pictures really helps increase conversion, so I’ll take the risk. Only twice I have had a listing removed because of copyright infringement.

Marketing and Sales

Effectively marketing your listings and implementing strategic sales techniques can significantly boost your visibility on Poshmark and drive increased sales. Explore these key strategies to optimize your marketing and sales efforts:

8. Offer a Bundle Discount

Make sure you are offering a bundle discount. In case you didn’t know, Poshmark lets you set an automatic bundle discount of 5% to 30% off for a certain number of items. I like offering 20% or 30% off for 2 or more items. This can encourage buyers to buy more than one item from your closet. Imagine someone likes an item from your closet, then they see that you offer a bundle discount so they go to your closet to find something else they like.

To set your bundle discount go to Profile >> My Seller Tools >> My Seller Discounts

9. Send Out Good Offers to Likers

Engage with potential buyers who have liked your items by sending them personalized offers. Offering a slight discount or reduced shipping costs can incentivize users to make a purchase. Regularly review your liked listings and initiate offers to keep potential buyers engaged and interested in your products. I like doing a 20% discount + $4.99 shipping but sometimes I offer something better if the item has been sitting in my closet for a while.

10. Accept Good Enough Offers

Be open to negotiations and accept reasonable offers from buyers. While it’s essential to know your item’s value, flexibility in pricing can lead to quicker sales and satisfied customers. Let’s say you get a jacket for $20 and list it for $80 trying to get at least $60, which means $40 in profit. Then, someone offers $50, I would just take that, especially if the offer happens soon after you list it. I’d rather get the money faster and reinvest it, instead of waiting weeks or even months to get the profit I was hoping for.

11. Use Bulk Offers

Did you know you can send offers in bulk if you are a Posh Ambassador? To do this go to your Closet, then click on the Tools icon and under Bulk Listing Actions, choose Make Offer to Likers.

This feature lets you create an offer, apply it to all items in your closet and send it to likers. Of course, you have the option to manually exclude some items from the bulk offer before sending it out.

12. Build Bundles for Your Shoppers

Some buyers don’t know they can create bundles. Seriously, someone once bought 3 items from my closet in 3 separate transactions. This is not convenient for buyers as they are just missing out on the shipping discount.

Be proactive and create a bundle when people like multiple items from your closet. Then, offer a discount on said bundle. Bundling items not only increases the average order value but also allows you to offer customized discounts.

13. Respond to Buyers’ Questions

Maintain active communication with potential buyers by promptly responding to questions or inquiries. Clear and quick responses contribute to a positive shopping experience, build trust, and increase the likelihood of a successful sale.

Shipping Strategies

Efficient and customer-friendly shipping practices can significantly impact buyer satisfaction and contribute to positive feedback and repeat business. Consider the following shipping strategies to enhance the overall shopping experience for your Poshmark customers:

14. Fast Shipping

Poshmark buyers appreciate prompt shipping. Aim to ship orders as quickly as possible, ideally within 1-2 business days of receiving a purchase confirmation. Providing a speedy delivery not only meets customer expectations but also encourages positive reviews.

15. Pack Your Items Nicely

Invest time and effort in packaging your items with care. Quality packaging not only protects the purchased items during transit but also adds a touch of professionalism to your service. This doesn’t mean you need to use premium boxes, ribbons, and thank-you cards, although you can go this extra step if you like. I think just using some nice poly mailers and sturdy boxes for bigger items can make a difference. I love these leopard poly mailers I found on Amazon and there are many other patterns available.

16. Take Protective Measures

Ensure that your shipments are adequately protected to prevent any damage during transit. Use soft materials or air pillows to cushion items, especially if they are fragile, such as makeup, glass, or sensitive home decorations.

Understanding the Poshmark Algorithm

Poshmark’s algorithm plays a crucial role in determining the visibility and success of your listings. There are two key things to understand about the Poshmark algorithm. First, when a buyer is searching for an item, Poshmark is going to show “Just Shared” items first by default. Second, the Poshmark feed shows recently listed items to buyers that follow the brand. This means that you will likely get more traffic to recently listed items and to items that you are sharing. With this in mind, here is how you can get more sales on Poshmark:

17. Share Constantly

Sharing your listings regularly is a fundamental aspect of the Poshmark algorithm. The more you share your items, the higher they appear in search results and category feeds. Aim to share your entire closet multiple times a day, especially during peak shopping hours. Many sellers use shopping assistant softwares to help with this aspect of the business. Personally, I use the bulk sharing option that is available for all Posh Ambassadors. To use the tool go to the Seller Tools icon and under Bulk Listing Actions select Share to Followers.

18. Relist

Regularly relisting your items helps keep your closet fresh and signals to the algorithm that your listings are active. Poshmark also shows recently listed items on peoples’ feeds. After an item has been listed for more than 60 days, you can make a copy of the item and relist it and it will show up as a new listing getting all the traffic. Don’t forget to delete the older listing! It’s important to wait the 60 days, otherwise Poshmark won’t treat the newly relisted item as a new item.

Other Strategies To Increase Sales

19. Cross Listing

Cross listing involves listing your products on multiple online marketplaces, expanding your reach beyond Poshmark. Mercari, Depop and Ebay are all good platforms where you can list some of your Poshmark listings. This adds a level of complexity because you need to make sure to delete the listing from other platforms once you sell it but you can use some tools to keep this under control. There are some apps like Crosslist that can help you manage this but I honestly just use a spreadsheet.

20. Sell High-Ticket Items

While selling a variety of items is essential, incorporating high-ticket items into your inventory can significantly impact your earnings. Higher-priced items can yield greater profits, making your Poshmark venture more lucrative. Ensure these items are well-photographed, accurately described, and priced competitively to attract buyers. Of course, offering high-ticket items means you will have to invest more in inventory, but you can potentially sell one item and make as much profit as you would by selling 5 cheaper items.
